The couple built a 50‑sqm house on a 100‑sqm plot for just VND250 million. They did the design, budgeting and most of the work themselves, showing how a small budget can still create a comfortable home.

Thao said they had VND200 million in savings and borrowed the rest, allocating VND140 million for structural work and doing the remaining construction themselves. This careful budgeting let them stay within the VND250 million total cost.

Thao sketched the design himself, using ideas he found online, and added 11 openings to bring in natural light and ventilation. He made the beds, wardrobes, cabinets and the porch roof, and he repurposed 11 second‑hand doors; the front door cost only VND700,000. These DIY choices reduced labor costs a lot.

Thao said the building took about 150 days, and they calculated every expense carefully even as material prices rose. The finished home shows that careful budgeting, DIY work and smart design can make a comfortable house on a limited budget.
