Dalat Railway Station in Vietnam has been officially twinned with France’s Trouville‑Deauville station. The partnership shows how historic rail sites can boost tourism and deepen international ties.

The station was built by French architects between 1932 and 1938. In 2001, the Vietnamese government recognized it as a national historical and cultural relic. It is considered one of the oldest and most beautiful railway buildings in Indochina.

A twinning ceremony organized by the French Embassy in Hanoi on May 7 officially linked Dalat with Trouville‑Deauville. During the event, both sides unveiled a twinning plaque at Dalat station. The partnership follows an SNCF tradition of creating station‑to‑station links to promote shared heritage and international cooperation.

Vietnam National Railway Group proposed joint actions to preserve the stations’ heritage, develop tourism‑linked transport hubs, and co‑promote heritage rail products. France will continue supporting Vietnam’s railway sector through the French Development Agency and companies such as SNCF, Systra and Alstom. According to VNR, Dalat Railway Station welcomes nearly 500,000 visitors each year, about 200,000 of whom ride the tourist trains.

The twinning of Dalat and Trouville‑Deauville demonstrates how heritage railways can attract visitors while strengthening Vietnam‑France strategic cooperation. It offers a clear example of cultural preservation turning into economic and diplomatic benefits.
