Masayoshi Son, the CEO of SoftBank Group, saw his wealth drop $1.6 billion in one day. Forbes says this is the fifth‑largest daily fall on its real‑time list, so the change is very big.
His net worth fell 2.9% to $52.9 billion. That puts him at 35th place in the world. He was the only Asian among the five biggest wealth losers that day.
SoftBank shares fell 3.2% on Wednesday and are down 34% for the whole year. Son is putting more money into artificial intelligence, such as a multibillion‑dollar stake in OpenAI and the $500 billion Stargate AI project.
The main point is that a billionaire’s net worth can move a lot when the share price of his company moves. Watching stock changes helps us understand why wealth can rise or fall quickly.
