Why Vietnam’s Gasoline Prices Hit a Two‑Month Low
Vì sao giá xăng Việt Nam chạm đáy 2 tháng
Source: Vnexpress
Vietnam’s gasoline prices have reached their lowest level in two months, a change that directly affects the cost of daily travel for many people. Understanding why the prices fell helps illustrate how government policy and global oil markets can shape everyday expenses.
The popular E10 RON95 fuel fell 3.81 % to VND23,230 per litre (US$0.90). At the same time, E5 RON92 slipped 4.21 % to VND23,200 per litre, and diesel dropped 4.53 % to VND28,870 per litre.
A key driver of the decline was the special consumption tax on all gasoline grades, which was cut to zero on 1 November and will stay at that level until March 2027. The tax cut reduces domestic gasoline prices by VND1,575‑1,804 per litre and cuts government revenue by more than VND7.67 trillion.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Industry and Trade said recent global energy markets were shaped by the U.S. midterm election results and Saudi Aramco’s plan to expand its crude oil pipeline network. Consequently, the price of RON95 crude oil fell nearly 11 % to $113.9 per barrel, diesel edged down 0.44 % to $163.6 per barrel, and fuel oil dropped about 11.3 % to $732.8 per metric ton.
E10 RON95 biofuel began nationwide sales on June 1, fully replacing conventional gasoline. Eleven companies are licensed to blend biofuels, with a combined capacity of 1.41 million m³ per month—about 400,000 m³ more than the roughly 1 million m³ monthly consumption.
In short, the combination of a zero tax on gasoline and lower international oil prices has pushed fuel costs down to a two‑month low. The situation shows how quickly policy decisions and global market shifts can affect the price you pay at the pump.
