A medical emergency unfolded on a commercial flight from Uzbekistan to South Korea on Oct 11 2026. The quick actions of a fellow passenger show how preparedness can turn a crisis into a survivable event.
On that day, a Korean‑American woman showed signs of severe shock, and her diastolic blood pressure dropped to just 20. The sudden fall threatened her brain and other vital organs.
Doctor Kamilov Hasan Bakhriddinovich, a 43‑year‑old Uzbek otolaryngologist traveling for training at Chungbuk National University Hospital, said he got up from his seat within 0.5 seconds. He used a blood‑pressure monitor from his backpack, gave a dexamethasone injection and provided intermittent oxygen for about 15 minutes.
Other passengers helped by offering water, candy, chocolate, pillows and blankets, while flight attendants assisted in stabilising the situation. Their cooperation gave the doctor more time to treat the patient.
Because of the doctor’s swift intervention, the pilot was able to land the plane safely in Seoul without diverting. The incident highlights that immediate medical care and simple tools can save lives even in confined settings like an airplane.
