Flight UO676 was flying to Jeju Island with 236 passengers and seven crew members. The flight became news because a power bank started to overheat during the approach.
The power bank was kept in a bag under a passenger’s seat. It began to overheat as the aircraft neared Jeju International Airport.
Cabin crew placed the battery in a fire‑containment bag designed for in‑flight battery incidents and then submerged it in water. This action stopped the fire from spreading.
Firefighters arrived at the airport at about 6:32 a.m., waited for the aircraft, and checked the plane for any remaining fire risk. After they saw no danger, they gave first aid to the injured passenger.
The passenger chose not to take an ambulance and went to a hospital on his own. The incident shows how a hot battery can be quickly contained on a plane.
