Lauri “Cyanide” Happonen became the first League of Legends world champion in 2011 when he was only 16. He later said the win lifted his confidence after feeling low self‑esteem, making the year feel like a dream.
In 2014 he left the team Fnatic. He said he no longer felt passion, felt too much pressure, and was unhappy with his performance.
Happonen later told the public that he fell into depression. He stopped playing to protect his mental health.
He died at age 31 on July 31, and the cause of death has not been released. The esports world was shocked by his loss, showing how early fame can bring heavy mental pressure.
