Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport has changed how checked bags are inspected. Knowing the new rules can help you avoid delays when you travel.
During inspections from 16 Oct to 22 Oct, security found power banks, lighters, electronic cigarettes and other prohibited items in checked bags. Thailand has amended the rules so staff can open a bag without the owner present if they suspect a dangerous item.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand says bags will not be opened routinely. Any check is done in a designated area, under controlled conditions, recorded on video, and a notice is left inside the bag. Airlines now require power banks and spare lithium batteries to be in cabin baggage, not in checked luggage. Don Mueang Airport also recommends using TSA‑compatible locks so officers can open and relock the bag after inspection.
If your bag is damaged during an inspection, you can contact your airline or file a complaint with the CAAT. Remember to keep batteries in your hand luggage and use a TSA‑compatible lock to make the process smoother.
