On Oct. 25, two US tourists, Andrew Newell Walther and Tyler J. Seims, were invited to a wedding banquet in Can Tho after they stumbled upon it. Their open‑hearted participation shows how Vietnamese hospitality can turn a chance meeting into a memorable story.
The bride, Phuong Hao, and groom, Khang Minh, welcomed the visitors. Walther sang a Vietnamese song and Seims performed a worm dance on stage. The pair also placed cash in an envelope as a wedding gift.
A friend of the bride posted the performances on TikTok, and the video quickly reached nearly three million views. The bride said the unexpected guests added extra excitement and created a special memory. Walther and Seims praised the relaxed atmosphere and the willingness of locals to include strangers, noting the difference from U.S. weddings. Walther has lived in Vietnam for nine years and improves his Vietnamese by singing karaoke.
This story shows that openness and cultural immersion can turn a simple invitation into a shared, viral moment. It also highlights how Vietnamese hospitality welcomes strangers and helps visitors learn the language and culture.
